MySpace Sets Another Relaunch

MySpace is getting ready for a relaunch. MySpace was one of the pioneers in the field of social media but will it be as big as Facebook or Twitter after it is launched? The new MySpace will mostly be about music and users will find a section where they can explore new songs and create playlists. A Top Fan section will also be available on MySpace for music fans. On June 2011, Chris and Tim Vanderhook purchased MySpace and they were recently joined by another investor, Justin Timberlake. According to their interviews, the new MySpace will mainly be a social medium for artists to connect to their fans. So what do you think? Will MySpace gain more users this time?

Facebook Tracks Down Fake Likes

Last week, I mentioned about Facebook tracking down fake likes on the site. Well here it is. During the past two days, Facebook started removing millions of fake likes on the site to improve overall integrity. Less than 1% of likes on any page will be removed according to Facebook. Fan pages with the largest drops are the following:

  • Texas Holdem Poker: -198,344 Likes (0.30% decrease)
  • CityVille: -72,631 Likes (0.29% decrease)
  • Lady Gaga: -65,505 Likes (0.12% decrease)
  • Rihanna: -49,861 Likes (0.08% decrease)
  • Shakira: -48,359 Likes (0.09% decrease)

Amazon – Working Out on a Mobile Payments Product

There have been a lot of talks that Amazon is getting ready for a mobile payments product that could beat its competitor. Amazon is said to be targeting smaller retailer chains. Rumors have it that Amazon would be offering a much lower credit card processing fees, for as low as 1.9%. Well let’s just see if these speculations are true after all this isn’t the first instance that rumors emerged regarding Amazing looking to power payments. In fact, last year it was reported that Amazon was eyeing an NFC-powered mobile payment service but nothing has been launched or released.

Google Launches FieldTrip

Google recently launched FieldTrip. FieldTrip is a location-aware application which according to Google is “your guide to the cool, hidden, and unique things in the world around you.”  This new product was created by Niantic Labs headed by John Hanke, a former Google Local/Maps head. According to John Hanke this new application is not “utilitarian” like Google Local apps or Maps. This application is only available for Android but an iOS version is soon to be available.

Smartphones and tablets can increase in impulse buying?

According to a new survey conducted in UK smartphone and table owners, mobile can result in an increase impulse buying for clothes and music. But the results also show that security has become a major reason for preventing these consumers from using m-commerce. 60% of people who were surveyed do not shop using their mobile phones as they prefer using their laptop or desktop. Still, 40% of those who were surveyed make purchases using their mobiles and therefore there is still a very big chance for m-commerce to bloom. Do you find it more convenient to shop using your smartphone or tablet?

New Craze from Rovio – Bad Piggies

Many people have gone crazy over the Angry Birds game. It was a hit and now Rovio is once again about to conquer the mobile world with its new game, the Bad Piggies. This game is slightly different from Angry Birds. I’m a non-gamer and I’m just wondering if this new game will have the same impact on casual gamers. Rovio’s revenue has decreased recently and let’s see if this new game is a good strategy from this Finnish company.

Yahoo AdSense is Back!

After two years of shutting down its text-based ad product called the Publisher Network, Yahoo Big Network Contextual Ads is launched. Just like Google’s Adsense, it will place its text ads on small sites all over the web. This new network is powered by Media.net a contextual ad firm and a partner of Yahoo since 2010.

Google President Eric Schmidt doing the Gangnam Style Moves

Gangnam Style is phenomenal athough I HATE the song!! Everywhere you go people are talking about this dance hit and it already has 296,518,066 views on YouTube. It’s amazing how something like this can be so huge when most people do not even know what PSY (oh he’s the singer by the way) is saying. Even Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt knows how to have fun on his recent Asian business trip.

Thats all for now! :)
